Mini - me

What a perfect follow up to my recent lucite post! Check out Adventures in renovating a Brooklyn limestone and enter the contest to win a Lou Lou Ghost Chair, the mini version of the Kartell Ghost Chair, from AllModern. Just comment on the post and you're entered to win. I never win this type of stuff so my entry won't work against you - promise!

Roof deck.....inspiration

I'm on the hunt for inspiration for our new roof. A while back Philly Home featured this Rittenhouse Square deck. Can anyone refer me to some good resources for spiral stairs and railings??

Crazy about..... CB2's Format Desk Accessories

I love lucite but haven't found a good way to incorporate it in to our house yet. So in the meantime, I'll take one of each of these from CB2's Format line.

Weekend Plans....Saturday, August 1st

If you live in the Philly area and aren't already familiar with The Great Uknown, check them out this weekend at Art-o-saur Rock-a-dile. And pick up some art while you're there!

The Great Uknown played at the 2nd annual Free Bird, putting on a really great show in the tiny living room of an old farmhouse/apothecary. One-part Nordic barn dance, two-parts Pennsylvania hootenanny, it's a party thrown by some friends in the sticks of PA with live music, fried poultry, fireside feats of strength (thanks Brackins!) and lots of Wild Turkey. We're hoping they'll play again next year (and stay and party too.)

NAME CHANGE!

Ruh roh, my oh so clever blog name is not so clever. Scott over at Domicidal Maniac beat me to it - sorry Scott! So a quick meeting of the minds and voila, problem solved. Welcome to Domicile Tendencies!

And while I have you, the picture above is from the home of one of my favorite designers. I was introduced to Barrie Benson in Domino a few years back and fell in love with her style and taste. I love her use of mid-century mixed with traditional and lots of oranges and blues. Check out more images of her home (and cute family) at Charlotte Home and Garden.

Shop Local on Etsy

Have you ever used the Shop Local option on Etsy? It's a great way to support your local artists and chances are, if you live in an area larger than Blaine, there are some good choices.

Bought an Elvis Costello print a few months ago from LowLevel.

Great vintage stuff like the brass horse from High Street Market.

Polaroid from Emmalyne.

Lots of cool baby stuff (note to self for gifts, been buying A LOT lately) including this zebra onsie from TadPole Creations.

Cute Philadelphia poster from LouellePress.

Roof deck...the beginning

So we've decided to build a roofdeck on our house. A two-tiered roof deck. We live in a 3 story townhouse that's just asking for one, with killer views of the city from the roof. We clamor up there a few times each summer, usually with cocktails in hand, to check out fireworks, or the Art Museum, or just to get some sun.

Here's where we are now....

This window looks out on to the 2nd floor roof and will eventually be a door....hopefully a door that will accommodate all of our tall family and friends....you can't really tell here but the window is right off of the landing causing some major head scratching.
Window from the inside

View of the top deck (and our pup Sage)
Window that will become a door

A view of our hood; the good view, of the city, is behind the "photographer."
NE view from the roof

Right now we're getting some bids from contractors. Assuming we find one we like we'll get to start the fun part, picking out materials, and the NOT fun part, dealing with Philly L&I.....

Notakeout.com

A friend recently shared this great new (to me at least) site called Notakeout.com. Each day they post a new recipe made from seasonal ingredients.

Notakeout includes recipes from the awesome Alice Waters, the owner of Chez Panisse and the pioneer of "California Cuisine." One of my favorite books as a kid was Fanny at Chez Panisse about the cooking adventures of a little girl. The book has a bunch of easy, fun, kid-friendly recipes.

The best part about Notateout is their ingredients list - broken down in to Shopping List and Pantry Items. It's mobile friendly too! They also include Tools and Suggestions which usually notes a wine or two to try with the meal. The recipes are simple enough that you can use them for a busy Tuesday night but good enough to save for entertaining and impressing guests.

The last dish I used from Notakeout.com was A Big Summer Salad & Garlic Bread, lots of herbs, fresh veggies, and limited prep time (although there is a lot of chopping). I grilled up some lemon chicken to top off the salad and we had a bottle of Gruner Veltliner, a nice, crisp Australian white (I'll talk more about that in another post...)
